Identifying brain tumours in children and young adults.

چکیده
Healthcare professionals caring for children need to promptly identify the child or young person with a serious underlying condition from themajority who present with minor self limiting illness. Recognising when a child might have cancer can be particularly difficult. Despite the perception that cancer is rare in children, an average general practice will see a child or young person with a new cancer every six years, and a quarter of the tumours will be brain tumours (personal communication, Patricia O’Hare, 2013). Early diagnosis can be crucial—evidence from cohort studies shows that it can improve short term and long term outcomes. This review summarises current evidence on the presentation and recognition of brain tumours in children and young adults and provides an overview of the treatment and long term care strategies for this population. What brain tumours occur in children?

Evaluation of Hemodynamic Response Function in Vision and Motor Brain Regions for the Young and Elderly Adults
Introduction: Prior studies comparing Hemodynamic Response Function (HRF) in the young and elderly adults based on fMRI data have reported inconsistent findings for brain vision and motor regions in healthy aging. It is shown that the averaging method employed in all previous works has caused this inconsistency. The averaging is so sensitive to outliers and noise. However, fMRI data are o...

Background: Definite data regarding the incidence and distribution of renal tumours in eastern India is not known. For better management, as it is essential to identify patients with poor prognosis, prognostic factors like stage, nuclear grade and their relationship to molecular markers are also unclear in this region. The purpose of our study was to assess the spectrum of adu...

Three new tumours, angiocentric glioma (AG), pilomyxoid astrocytoma (PMA), and pituicytoma are added to the section on gliomas. AG is a slowly growing cerebral tumour that typical...

متن کاملEpidemiology of bone tumours in children and young adults.
Although the epidemiology of malignant bone tumours in children and young adults has been explored, no definitive causation of any specific tumour has yet been identified. We performed a literature review (1970-2008) to find all papers covering possible aetiological factors involved in the development of bone tumours in children and young adults. Several associations have been reported with som...
